Deal supports scale-up strategy to create a UK leader with a national footprint
Aliter’s legal services portfolio company Orwins has acquired Clarke Mairs, the Newcastle upon Tyne based commercial law firm.
Clarke Mairs now becomes part of the rapidly growing Manchester headquartered Orwins group, which offers a full range of legal services from an expanding national office network, targeting high-growth businesses, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals.
The transaction, for an undisclosed sum, is the fourth investment by Aliter, following previous investments in Manchester based BBS Law in October 2024, London based Carter Bond in August 2025 and Reading based Clarkslegal in May 2026.
Headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne, Clarke Mairs is a full-service commercial law firm specialising in litigation, insolvency, commercial property, company and commercial law, as well as offering personal services, including enfranchisement, residential conveyancing and private client work. The firm’s 48 strong team is led by ten partners, serving clients across the North East of England and beyond.

The current partners at Clarke Mairs are remaining with the firm, becoming shareholders in Orwins.
